Discovering a pimple on the facial area can be worrying for a number of people who seem to have skin area that does not have blemishes. While Gemma Cottam was 15, she did not really pay any attention to a skin mole that was on the side of her face. She published photos on social media and informed other people that it started as a pimple.
Cottam had the area examined by a doctor, and she was told that there was absolutely nothing to worry about.

The area could be removed, but out of fear for the process of removal, she made the decision to let it go and live her life.
About 10 years went by, and the same mole is still on Cottam’s face. It was larger, so she made considerations of getting it taken off.
She went on a vacation with her fiance. When she came back, she told the doctor to remove the mole.
It took less than 30 minutes to remove it, and the doctor sent it off to have it examined to see if there were any health concerns in relation to the mole.

Cottam learned that the mole was actually stage two melanoma. The sin around the mole had to be removed. She also needed surgery to remove a lymph node in the area.

Unfortunately, the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, so she needed more surgery. She is now showing her scars to others to try to spread awareness for skin cancer.
