Back in July 2015, Melanie Williams turned to Facebook when she received her skin cancer diagnosis. Based on her post, she sought a doctor’s opinion to see whether she was right about having a wart or fungus. Williams indicates that she has had luck about it, “I’ve been lucky. The cancer hasn’t spread, and it’s being removed next week along with half of my thumb.”
Skin cancer, based on Skin Cancer Foundation, is “the uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells.” If it is neglected and not treated, skin cancer can develop to melanoma , “The most dangerous form of skin cancer.”
According to Mirror , Williams is from Lymm, Chesire. When she made the post she was just 36. The reason for Williams’ post is to raise awareness regarding skin cancer. She tells people, “. . . please go and get any changes or growths on your skin checked out . . . Don’t leave it to chance or make excuses!”
Rather than feeling sorry for herself and not wanting people to give her empty platitudes, Williams says, “So please, don’t leave comments about how brave I am or how sorry you are. Instead, take that time to share this or tell someone he or she needs to get checked or make that phone call to the doctors for yourself.”
Throughout the entire ordeal, Williams keeps her sense of humor, which is seen in the last line of her post, “If anyone knows where I can get a mini hook attachment for my stubby thumb give me a shout!”
