You will need:

For hard wax:

  • 1⁄4 cup water
  • 1⁄4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1⁄4 cup water
  • 1⁄4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar

Here’s how:

Combine the ingredients and heat the mixture c. 5 to 7 minutes on low heat until the sugar has dissolved.

For hard wax, the mixture should become a brown syrup. For soft wax, the liquid should be a light golden brown, i.e. honey brown.

You can then pour the paste into a jar. Warning: to be safe, warm the glass beforehand so that it doesn’t crack from the hot liquid.

Before applying to your skin, after 15 or 20 minutes, you should do a finger test: if the wax is still too hot, let it cool further until it has a thick, honey-like consistence.

Then you can take a knife and and apply the wax on the desired body area in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

Flick up a bit of wax at the end so that it’s separated from the skin; this gives you a tab to pull on.

Wait a few seconds and pull the wax quickly from the skin in the direction of hair growth. With soft wax, directly after applying, you can use a strip of cloth for this purpose, smoothing it over the wax and then pulling it off quickly.

Make sure that you use your other hand to keep the skin taught as you are pulling off the strips.
